{"id":11,"date":"2012-08-25T00:14:49","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T22:14:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andreikucharavy.com\/L3Cache\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2020-08-09T23:14:12","modified_gmt":"2020-08-09T21:14:12","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/andreikucharavy.com\/L3Cache\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Who?<\/h2>\n<p>I am interested in what makes complex systems tick &#8211; in particularly those at the confluence of living systems, physical systems and computing systems.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, I am in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dcl.epfl.ch\/site\/\">Distributed Computing Laboratory<\/a> at the Ecole Polytechnique F\u00e9d\u00e9rale of Lausanne, focusing on how population genetics can help us to <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2006.04720\">better detect deep-fakes<\/a> and on how theory of error resilience in distributed computing can help us to <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1101\/487348\">better understand biological organisms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before that I did a post-doctoral fellowship in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bme.jhu.edu\/faculty_staff\/joel-bader-phd\/\">Joel Bader<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/profiles\/results\/directory\/profile\/2360637\/andrew-ewald\"> Andrew Ewald<\/a> labs as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ocg.cancer.gov\/programs\/ctd2\">CDT2 consortium<\/a> &#8211; building <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/chiffa\/BioFlow\">tools and pipelines<\/a> to prioritize the targets to be explored to prevent and stop breast cancer metastasis.<\/p>\n<p>I did my PhD in the <a href=\"http:\/\/ronglilab.johnshopkins.edu\/\">Dr.\u00a0Rong Li&#8217;s<\/a> lab at <a href=\"http:\/\/cellbio.jhmi.edu\/about\">Johns Hopkins Cell Biology department<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stowers.org\/\">Stowers Institute for Medical Research<\/a>, with the collaboration of the CNRS <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcqb.upmc.fr\/BIG\">Biology of Genomes lab<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upmc.fr\/en\/\">UPMC<\/a> Paris University <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ed515.upmc.fr\/en\/01_presentation\/\">Life Complexities doctoral school<\/a>. My PhD focused on the mechanisms of rapid adaptation to stress in biological organisms, which led me to work on aneuploidy &#8211; both in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-019-1187-2\">yeast<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0092867415000690\">cancer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molbiolcell.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1091\/mbc.E18-01-0070\">theoretical population genetics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature21695\">novel pathway for protein degradation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polytechnique.edu\/en\/ingenieur-polytechnicien-program\">Ecole Polytechnique<\/a> engineering and an <a href=\"http:\/\/sv.epfl.ch\/masters\/lst_en\">EPF Lausanne<\/a> MSc student, I also had the opportunity to work on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S153458071200192X\">cell motility<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/nar\/article\/41\/18\/8444\/1031091\">\u00a0last universal common ancestor genome reconstruction<\/a>, as well as tools for better <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/andreikucharavy\/master-presentation-25868475\">drug off-target effects prediction and drug re-purposing<\/a> &#8211; respectively under the supervision of Drs Rong Li and Arcady Mushegian at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and<span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sdsc.edu\/pb\/\">Dr. Borune&#8217;s<\/a><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> lab at <\/span><a style=\"font-size: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/pharmacy.ucsd.edu\/about\/\">UCSD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I also tweet as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/andrei_chiffa\">@andrei_chiffa<\/a> on Twitter.
